Frequently Asked Questions
Discover all the ins and outs of using CDConnect™ with our comprehensive guide.
CDConnect is an innovative Electronic Data Capture (EDC) platform specifically designed for clinical data management. It streamlines the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting clinical data from various medical devices and healthcare wearables, leveraging the power of the Internet of Things (IoT). CDConnect simplifies EDC in clinical research, providing a user-friendly and efficient solution for health research and research studies.
Currently, CDConnect supports data collection from Fitbit, Omron, and Dexcom wearables. All information from these wearables is tracked, stored, and displayed through our platform. As a research-led EDC system, we always want to discover which devices are most needed for health research. Let us know if you have a specific device you need for EDC in a clinical trial. We envision an ecosystem of devices connected to the platform as part of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT).
We collect all available data from Fitbit, Omron, and Dexcom devices across all timescales. Here’s a breakdown of what each device collects:
Fitbit:
✔ Activity: Distance, Steps, Floors, Calories, Total Tracker Active Minute, Minutes Sedentary
✔ Body & Weight: Weight, BMI, Fat
✔ Heart: Resting Heart Rate
✔ Sleep: Sleep Duration, Sleep Cycle/Analysis (Light, REM, Deep, Awake, Efficiency)
Omron:
✔ Blood Pressure: Systolic, Diastolic, Pulse
✔ Weight
Dexcom:
✔ Glucose Levels
Registering a patient to the CDConnect system is a simple process. To add a new participant, first navigate to the dashboard and locate the “Add New Participant” button. Follow the instructions on the Add New Participant page and enter the required information. Once you’re done, click the submit button. The system will then return you to the dashboard where you can see the new participant listed in the table, along with a unique identification number assigned by the system.
Before collecting and managing a participant’s data, it’s important to obtain their authorization to connect their medical devices and wearables to the platform. Once you have their authorization, the platform will start collecting and managing their data.
Adding a new medical device is simple. There are two main options:
In-person authorization. Select “Manage Participant” on the Dashboard. Under the applicable device, click “Authorize Access” and complete the appropriate steps displayed on your screen.
Remote authorization. Send an authorization request via email for a specific device to a participant. They can then complete the process as described in the first option.
Yes. CDConnect is a confidential and secure platform. We operate using Amazon Web Services (AWS), employing the latest data security and protection measures to protect the privacy and integrity of your clinical trial data. Ensuring the highest level of security and compliance is a top priority for CDConnect.
Furthermore, confidentiality and blinding can be maintained by registering only the participant’s ID, a unique identification number assigned by the system during the “Add New Participant” process. No further information is required to start collecting data.
CDConnect values user privacy and data ownership. The platform operates under strict data protection guidelines and does not claim any rights to your data. As a user, you retain full ownership and control over the information collected during clinical trials.
CDConnect uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) to run our cloud-based system. AWS is an industry-leading platform for cloud computing. It guarantees the highest levels of security, protection, and functionality. As part of our EDC clinical trial system, AWS ensures data collection, analysis, and interpretation are straightforward and reliable. With this setup, you can easily collect and analyze data from anywhere in the US and beyond.
The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a novel concept referring to an interconnected network of medical devices and healthcare systems. Collectively, this digital health ecosystem collects and shares data via the internet.
IoMT enables real-time monitoring, seamless data transmission, and enhanced decision-making in healthcare and clinical research.
CDConnect leverages the power of IoMT by integrating with various health wearables and devices, providing researchers with continuous access to valuable participant data. By harnessing its potential, we significantly reduce site visits and costs while promoting efficiency and accuracy in clinical trials.
We’re dedicated to delivering high-level clinical research support. Whether you have a technical problem, question, or concern about the platform, we’re always ready to help. From device integration to data management, we want to ensure a seamless and successful experience.
We’ve designed CDConnect to support a wide range of clinical trials, from small-scale studies to large, multi-site projects.
Our platform is as flexible as it is adaptable. Choose the wearables and data you wish to collect, and we’ll provide seamless data collection and management.
Plus, our customizable dashboards let you tailor the system to your trial protocol. And as we keep adding compatibility with more medical devices, we aim to accommodate all manner of clinical research scenarios.
Yes. CDConnect lets you export your data for further analysis. Simply download any dataset in either .csv or .xlsx format, and it will be ready to import into your preferred statistical software. You can then conduct in-depth data analysis with a vast dataset, helping further your research objectives.
